International Women’s Day 2024: Celebrating our Medley Posse

For International Women’s Day 2024, we could think of no better way to celebrate than to get together and acknowledge the amazing women that help make Medley what it is. Our #MedleyPosse include entrepreneurs, models, business owners, journalists, stylists, athletes, mothers and more, who we have loved collaborating and working with over the years.

On Friday 8th March, we hosted brunch at iconic Brisbane poolside restaurant, Hellenika. We also asked our Medley Posse to share what it means to them to #InspireInclusion, support those around them, and which women inspire them in their lives.

In honour of International Women’s Day, here’s a few words of wisdom from some our favourite women.

What does "Inspire Inclusion" mean to you?

“Inspiring inclusion to me means supporting women to have the confidence to strive for greatness. When women feel included, limiting beliefs are diminished and their true capabilities are unveiled.”

Katie Martin
Athlete

“Every woman on this earth, regardless of their background, should get to feel like they belong. Inspiring inclusion to me means living by example and hopefully helping make inclusivity part of our future. Elevate the women in your life, never push them down.”

Gemma
Makeup Artist

“To me, Inspire Inclusion means celebrating diversity and actively and openly embracing the many forms of woman. Normalising uplifting each other and creating a space where women can feel safe, seen and included.”

“A sense of belonging , relevance and empowerment for all .”

Emma Chen
Entrepreneur & Mother

Inspire Inclusion to me is about embracing all that women are. It is not about fitting a mould or changing ourselves to live up to what we think others expect of us, whether that be in our professional or personal lives, but rather being celebrated for our differences. It is about breaking down barriers through meaningful communication, empathy, community, love and support.”

Being inclusive is what I strive for being a model in Australia, it means so much to me as it’s something I didn’t see much of when I was growing up.”

How do you support the women around you?

“Listening to women’s stories and allowing people to feel heard is super important. I feel as though a lot of the time our voices are minimised and drowned out by others so ensuring that women feel seen. Also celebrating each other’s accomplishments and supporting each other through our losses.”

Rino
Model

“I support the women around me by giving them space and time to feel safe in expressing themselves truthfully and openly, as well as being honest and open in the way that I express myself to them.”

Zoe Vanzaal
Model

“By championing them any opportunity I get.Letting them know how wonderful they are as often as I can. By being there for them when things are tough, making sure they are never alone.”

Gemma
Makeup Artist

“I can honestly say that the success of other women brings me so much joy and excitement.  It makes me feel hopeful for my own future and so honoured to witness people flourishing on their unique journeys. I think it’s so inspiring to discover and join the paths women have forged for themselves and I think it’s so important that we have each other to lean on, and for support, to get where we want to be - and in this way we all succeed. Aside from love and support for all the women in my personal life, I try my best to always support women in business. I am a fashion student and hope to one day start my own business and therefore to show my support for others in my field.”

“To always lend a hand to the women around me who need it, it’s the little things for me! Taking my mum out for a lil coffee date as a treat, listening to my girlfriends rant without judgement , taking my niece out for a lil play date so my sister in law can have a break and just be there for them!”

Which Women Inspire You?

“My grandma and my mum are both big inspirations to me— moving to a foreign country and adapting to a new lifestyle and creating a life that is comfortable is such a huge feat. They’ve both had to overcome a lot of hardships and I’m so proud to be their granddaughter and daughter.”

Rino

“The other mothers in my life, friends and family who have had children before me. Knowing now what they have been through and experienced from raising children I found myself constantly in awe of them, especially when I was in the newborn haze.”

Emma Chen
Entrepreneur & Mother

“My colleague Kayla Itsines. She has personally pioneered and shaped the way of the fitness industry for women through her online presence. She is someone that has stood by her morals and has created a global platform for women to feel strong and empowered. Through hard work and commitment to women all around the world, she is the most inspiring woman I know."

Katie Martin
Athlete

"The woman that inspires me the most is my Mum, from growing up and seeing how many sacrifices she’s made for my brother and I, to moving to a foreign country to give us a better life and opportunities, I’ve just learnt so much from her over the years and I know there’s so much more to gain from her knowledge, it’s so valuable!! I just love and appreciate her so much for everything she’s done for me and our family!"
