Moments with Mum | Mother’s Day Q&A

Mother's Day is a special occasion to celebrate and honor all the important female figures in our lives. Mother-figures can come in many different forms; a sister, a friend, an auntie, close neighbour or grandmother, it is all about who provides the caring, guidance we seek when we require that nurturing support through life. Mother’s Day serves as an important celebration to express some of our most cherished human connections, expressing our love, gratitude, and appreciation for all the sacrifices (and sleepless nights) our mother figures have made for us.

As such, we took a moment to reflect on some of our favourite memories with our mothers and of course, explore the perfect Medley gift we will be giving our mums this Mother's Day...because we all know something shiny never fails to delight...

Join us in our virtual sit-down with some of our team to talk about the mother figures in their lives, we have also shared some practical advice from our mum team members to any working Mothers to be!

Donna

1. What is the best memory you have with your mum?
I am the youngest in our family and I remember going to town with mum when the others were at school, I loved that one-on-one time.

2. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned from your mum?
My mum can do anything; nothing is too hard for her, and she does not wait for someone to do something for her. I have always admired that about her, and it is something I try to emulate for my children so that they can see I can have a career, fix the lawn mower, or hang a picture on the wall, and I do not need anyone to help me or do it for me.

3. What are some of the qualities you admire in your mum?
Her can do attitude and she is always the first person to help or help someone in need.

4. How do you plan on celebrating Mother's Day this year?
High tea with my mother and my daughter.

5. What Medley piece best suits your mum?
1/2ct lab diamond studs.

6. How do you balance being a mum and having a career?
Being organised, the only way I can manage is to have planned the night before what needs to happen in the morning otherwise it is impossible to get out of the hour on time.  Also, I have been incredibly lucky to have an incredibly supportive husband who shares the school drop off and picks up with me this has allowed me to be able to focus on work when I need to.

7. What advice would you give to new mums?
Take it one day at a time and focus on today. Try not to worry too much about what might happen in the future!

Shanyce

1. What is the best memory you have with your mum?

Definitely going salsa dancing in the streets – we are both obsessed and love to dance!

2. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned from your mum?

“If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all” I think it's such an important thing to spread kindness and definitely something my mum instilled in us growing up.

3. What are some of the qualities you admire in your mum?

She is kind, understanding and the best listener!

4. How do you plan on celebrating Mother's Day this year?

A family dinner most likely followed by Latin music and dancing.

5. What Medley piece best suits your mum?

Engravable disc laboratory-grown diamond baguette necklace in 10k gold. She loves necklaces with pendants, and it being personalised is even better!

Elizah

1. What is the best memory you have with your mum?

My mum and I used to always have the best mother-daughter days! She is an artist, so it often meant painting in her studio or going for a cool hike somewhere- bonding while we would talk more like friends.

2. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned from your mum?

Nothing can’t be talked through over a good cup of tea (she’s English!)

3. What are some of the qualities you admire in your mum?

Her resilience, practicality, and ability to see the best in others, always.

4. How do you plan on celebrating Mother's Day this year?

 I’m going for a child-free long lunch!

5. What Medley piece best suits your mum?

My Mum already looks sponsored by Medley and has a complete collection from us, but, I think Mum would look great in our Diamond Lariat Y Necklace in 10k Gold

6. How do you balance being a mum and having a career?

Coming back to work after mat-leave requires lots of forward planning and teamwork! BUT with the right support, it can be so rewarding to honour yourself as a mum and as a working individual. I am over a year into my return and feel the most fulfilled in my life because I get to celebrate all the versions of myself. When I am at work, I really try to give my all to my team, and when I am at home, my son absolutely takes centre stage.

7. What advice would you give to new mums?

Check in with yourself (often) I found that journalling helped me in the early days of Mumma-hood, especially during those sleepless ‘what day is it’ kind of periods. When you look to get back to work or find time for yourself, list all the things that light you up and take small, steady steps towards doing things that fulfil you, spoiler: they do not need to be baby related! I think another key, and likely the most important thing to remember, is baby-hood, mat leave and the ‘newborn era’ is a season that will pass (far faster than it might feel at the time).

We would also like to take a moment to share our condolences and compassion to those who can not celebrate this day with their Mothers, or Mother figures, hoping to send kind energy your way during this period.
